Florida’s schools will close early as election day approaches in a sign that schools could be the last to reopen, a top education official said.
The Sarasota County School District has said it will close at least 11 schools this week, including its main campus, and that schools in several counties are scheduled to reopen Tuesday.
Schools are closed across Florida to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Some schools in the Miami-Dade County School System, which includes Fort Lauderdale, were temporarily closed on Monday due to the coronivirus.
Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency.
At least 100 people have died in Florida since coronavides began, including children, and the state has received more than 2,000 cases of the virus.
